Commissions

I am always happy to discuss possible commissions.  I enjoy the challenge of creating a unique painting from my client’s favourite subject matter and basic ideas.  The price will depend on a variety of things such as size and complexity but I try to be flexible about price and can usually suggest something that is within my client’s budget.  The first step is to E-mail or phone me …  WITHOUT OBLIGATION  … of course !

Some examples of commissions I have painted over the years are shown below. With the owner’s approval, some are available as prints, but if you prefer you can stipulate that there will be no reproduction of your unique commissioned painting.

Victorious Return”

In June 1953 Jaguar C Type cars triumphed at the Le Mans 24 hours race in France with the works team finishing 1st 2nd  and 4th

After the race the whole team was driven back to Coventry in convoy on public roads for a heroes welcome at Jaguar’s Browns Lane Works.

On the A40 at Tatling End they all stopped for refreshments at the Wayside Café, which was appropriately decorated with flags and bunting for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II .

The print shows the winning cars, numbered 18 (1st) .. 17 (2nd) .. 19 (4th) , together with an un-numbered reserve car, and their back up team. Also present is a privately entered C Type, carrying trade plates and painted Belgian yellow (number 20) which finished 9th.

The original oil painting was commissioned and purchased by Mr Graham Merry, whose late father was the proprietor of the Wayside Café at the time of the visit.

With the client’s permission this high quality print is now offered as a strictly limited edition of  199.    Available framed or unframed.

    “Road and Rail”

The original painting was a commission for a client who wished to portray an un-rebuilt “Merchant Navy” locomotive in 1947 Southern Railway livery, and also to include in the painting his beloved 1960 MG car. As the loco had been de-streamlined by the time his car was built, this involved a degree of artistic licence with time!  But although this scene could never have happened in real life he was very pleased with his oil painting, and it has proved to be a popular print.

    “Diesel and Electric”

The original oil painting was commissioned by the railway staff at Bournemouth and was presented to Driver Brian Heckford to mark his retirement after 49 years and 8 months.

The painting is set at Bournemouth in the late 1980s following the electrification of the line to Weymouth and depicts the arrival in Platform 2 of an Up Boat Train from Weymouth Quay to London Waterloo.

The class 33/1 Diesel locomotive is about to be detached and replaced for the rest of the journey to London by the class 73/1 Electro-Diesel , which is waiting in the Up Bay, Platform 1. A class 442 Wessex Electric multiple unit train has just  arrived at Platform 3 with a London to Weymouth service.
